What should you do with your batteries when they die? You should recycle them at the shops. Most big supermarkets have a recycling box for batteries to be put in. This is so that the metals inside them can be used again. If the battery breaks down, it will leak toxic metals into the environment. These metals can be dangerous to wildlife so to avoid harming any plants and animals it’s important we recycle our batteries.
Bacteria are tiny organisms which can only be seen under a microscope. Some bacteria have the power to resist toxic metals. They absorb the metals like a sponge and take them out of the ground or the water.
I work with these special bacteria. I use them to absorb the metals found in batteries

My Typical Day:
I let the sunlight wake me up in the morning! I’ll watch a bit of TV whilst having my breakfast and off to work I go. I plan out my experiments on the computer and then off I go. I’ll spend most of the day taking measurements and observing my bacteria growing.
