At the site I work at, we make lots of different concrete things! We make the floor you stand on, stairs you go up and down, the long long barriers in the middle of motorways and even the balconies you may enjoy when you’re on holiday .
My job is to make sure the concrete is safe before you use it. I go around collecting concrete on site and make sure it is how it should be.

My Typical Day:
My day starts at 7:30. I’m up a lot earlier than this though! It’s very dark in the winter, but it’s nice and light in the summer. When I’m at work I will first get a coffee! Then speak to the bosses and get into my brightly coloured uniform and walk onto the site! It is bright so everyone can see each other, as there is a lot of big machinery and vehicles on site.
I will then go around the different product areas and make sure their concrete is how it should be. I use science equipment to do lots of different testing.

7:30 – Get to work and have a chat about the days work
8:00 – I answer any emails I may have got
9:00 – I get changed into a lot of orange clothes!
9:10 – The rest of the morning I will be out and about on the site, looking at all the different products and concrete mixes.
In the lab we have a really cool machine which crushes little concrete cubes we make. Sometimes they are under so much force when they get destroyed they will go BANG and leave a lot of mess! This is a good thing as that means the concrete we make is very strong!
12:00 – Lunch!!!
12:30 -4 – In the afternoons I sit at my desk and make sure all the testing we have done that day is perfect. If it isn’t, I sometimes have to change all the different things we put into concrete. This can be fun at times.
Concrete is very similar to baking a cake! You put all the different ingredients in, let it bake for a bit and then it comes out as the concrete we see! Instead of flour, eggs and sugar, we use different types of rock, sands and add in cement. Cement is what makes concrete very hard!
