My research aims to use beneficial bacteria to help crop plants grow. If we can do this than we need less chemical fertilisers, pesticides and fungicides for our food. All these chemicals can negatively impact insect life so the way I view it is that my research is making a contribution to protecting pollinator species indirectly.
I also work directly with Bees because I find them cool and enjoy the research. Lots of the skills a scientist develops (experimental design, data analysis and writing) can easily be transferred to other fields!
