Geomorphology is the study of physical features and covers everything from hills, to volcanoes to oxbow lakes. I look at the changes in river geomorphology also known as fluvial geomorphology. The geomorphic change I look at is caused by the water, so erosion, deposition etc. This can happen slowly, for example over time meanders can increase in size from constant erosion or it can happen really fast, so a flood might cut through a meander and cause the channel to straighten and an oxbow lake to form.
Geomorphic change in general can be caused by wind (aeolian processes), ice (glaciers) and tectonic activity. People even study geomorphic change on other planets like Mars.
The British Society for Geomorphology has some great outreach materials if you want to learn more, or just ask me more questions!
