• Question: Is it true that after a lot of years, new continents might form on the Earth while the current ones may submerge or break apart?

Hi! Yes so new continents form and break apart but these take many millions of years. 335 million years ago all the land masses were in one continent called Pangea and then the continent broke apart 175 million years ago Scientists can look at records on different continents to see how they were connected, for example if you find the same species of dinosaur in Africa and South America it is likely because they were together many millions of years ago.

The East Africa rift is a good example where the crust that continents sit on is starting to thin and could eventually break in many millions of years time! The Himalayas is a good example of where two continents came together and formed a huge mountain range. It is still continuing to grow because the two continents are still moving into each other but the ice at the top is also melting due to climate change and so the overall height stays the same.
